Analysis of drugs in aquatic environment

ABSTRACT:

The occurrence, metabolism and toxicity of medicinally active drugs in the aquatic environment has been recognized as one of the emerging issues in environmental chemistry. In some investigations carried out in various countries like Spain, Greece, England, Canada, Italy, Austria, Brazil, Croatia, and the U.S., more than 100 compounds, pharmaceuticals and several drug metabolites, have been detected in the aquatic environment. Several drugs from various prescription classes have been found at concentrations up to the µg/ l-level in influent and effluent samples and also in several surface waters located downstream from municipal sewage treatment plants. The present review in designed to collect the information about the various drug in aquatic environment and their analysis with respect to antipsychotics, anticancer, antibiotics and other commonly used drugs to provide the information for safe use of drugs and to avoid the toxicity of these drug to the environmental lives.
