Synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of some substituted imidazoles

Introduction Epilepsy is a group of disorders of the CNS characterized by paroxysmal cerebral dysthymia, manifesting as brief episodes (seizures) of loss or disturbance of consciousness, with or without characteristic body movements (convulsions), sensory or psychiatric phenomena. Epilepsy is a common chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures. These seizures are transient sign and /or symptoms of abnormal, excessive or synchronous neuronal activity in the brain. Epilepsy has a focal origin in the, manifestations depends on the site of the focus, regions into which the discharges spread anpostical depression of these regions. About 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy, with almost 90% of these people being in developing countries. Epilepsy is more likely to occur in young children or people over the age of 65 years; however it can occur at any time.

Synthesis and anticonvulsant activity of 1-[(4, 5-d ihydro-5-phenyl-3- (phenylamino)pyrazol-1-yl)]ethanone derivatives

Abstract In present study a series of chalcones of anilide and their corresponding product 1-[(4,5-dihydro-5-phenyl-3-(phenylamino)pyrazol-1-yl)]ethanone derivatives I-VI were synthesized and evaluated for their anticonvulsant activity againstelectric shock induced convulsion method in rat at a dose of 125 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg intra peritonially. The structures of compounds were confirmed by IR, H 1 NMR and Mass spectroscopy. The compounds of this series (III) and (V) were found to be most potent, which have shown higher percent of anti convulsant activity. Phenytoin was taken as reference drug. Their pharmacophoric groups are similar and the possible structure of suitable fused heterocyclic could be accepted to give anti convulsant activity
