Synthesis, characterization and antibacterial activity of Hystatin 2 derivatives

ABSTRACT : Hystatin is a group of compounds resulted from the derivatization of aaptamine. A series of hystatin 2 derivatives (3, 5-15) have been synthesized and characterized using modern spectroscopic techniques, namely IR, 1H and 13C NMR, UV-Vis and Mass Spectrometer. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial activity against selected bacterial strains of both Gram positive and Gram negative groups, namely Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus sp, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae using standard microbiological protocol of disc-diffusion method. The antibacterial activities of the compounds were assessed by the presence and absence of inhibition zones and minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) values. In general, most of the derivatives showed significant antibacterial activity towards Gram positive bacteria. Ultrasound-promoted synthesis of 2-aminothiophenes accelerated by DABCO utilizing PEG-200 as solvent

ABSTRACT: An expeditious and greener one-pot procedure was developed for the synthesis of multisubstituted 2-aminothiophene derivatives. In the presence of catalytic amount of DABCO, ketones or aldehydes, dicyanomethane and elemental sulfur were converted into the corresponding 2-aminothiophene derivatives in moderate to high yields in PEG-200 under sonication. Effects of ethanolic extract of Annona squamosa L. leaves on the expression of EGFR

ABSTRACT: The precise causes of psoriasis, a relatively common, chronic, inflammatory and hyperproliferative skin disease, are still not known, thus making it very difficult for treatment. We previously found an in vitro anti-psoriatic activity in ethanolic extract of Annona squamosa L. leaves. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and its ligand, transforming growth factor (TGF)-α, have been demonstrated to be strikingly upregulated in active psoriatic plaques, thus implicating their functional roles in psoriatic hyperplasia. The objective of this study was to investigate the molecular effect of ethanolic extract derived from Annona squamosa L. leaves on the EGFR expression using HaCaT keratinocyte cell line as a model. Biochemical composition of brown marine alga Spatoglossum asperum

ABSTRACT: The macroalgae showed varied quantities of biochemical constituents like total carbohydrate, total protein and total lipid. Studies were conducted to evaluate biochemical composition of Spatoglossum asperum. Fatty acid, vitamins and minerals composition were carried out by using gas chromatography method and flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry method respectively. Among biochemical content total protein is present in high amount, 11.03 ± 0.06%, total carbohydrates is 6.55 ± 0.14% and total lipid is 3.14± 0.14%. Among the 7 identified fatt y acid, Linoleic acid (29.41± 0.01%) and stearic acid (21.9 9 ± 0.01%) are found to be the major components. Among vitamins, vitamin C (15.60 ± 0.00 mg/100gm) and Nia cin (10.86 ± 0.02 mg/100gm) are present in major qu antities. Study on the chlorine decay model in the water distribution system

ABSTRACT: Maintaining some chlorine residual concentration in the water distribution system is the key step to the safety of water quality. In this text, it puts forward a new chlorine decay model after studying the chlorine spatial and temporal decay. Each decay coefficient to the model adopts the dynamic simulation of the computer to estimate. Also a modeling case is presented, it shows that the new model is more practicality and adaptability. Enhanced bactericidal effect of silver nanoparticles synthesized using marine brown macro algae

ABSTRACT: In the present investigation silver nanoparticles of spherical shape was synthesized biologically by rapid biological drip method using marine brown macro algae, Sargassum wightii (S. Wightii). Seaweed extract act as a reducing agent for silver nitrate. Silver nanoparticles have been characterized by UV-Visible spectrophotometer, FourierTransform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HR-TEM). Molecular docking studies of embelin (simple natural benzoquinone) and its derivatives as a potent tyrosinase inhibitor

ABSTRACT: In recent years regulation of the enzymatic activity of tyrosinase has been the main focus of investigation due to its potential applications in medicine, agriculture and cosmetics. In the present study, we evaluated its docking behaviour of nine different ligands (such as Coenzyme Q10, L-DOPA, Embelin, Idebenone, Kojic acid, 5-Methyl embelin, Potassium embelate, L-Tyrosine and Vilangin)with the copper-bound Streptomyces castaneoglobisporus tyrosinase & Agaricus bisporus (Mushroom tyrosinase). Autodock 4.0 tool was used to investigate its putative binding residues. R&D growth and efficiency of scientific research development institutes in China

ABSTRACT: With China tops global patent filings, Chinese innovation capability is coming in to the picture. However, is this real innovation capability of China? This paper calculates and analyzes the Annual Growth Rate of R&D inputs and outputs from Scientific Research and Development Institute (SRDI) in PR. China, covering the time period of 1999-2010. pointing out the existing questions and reasons. And then assesses the R&D efficiency of SRDI by using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. Separation of benzene-cyclohexane mixtures by using adsorption technique

ABSTRACT: Adsorption is a process that occurs when a gas or liquid solute accumulates on the surface of a solid or, more rarely, a liquid (adsorbent), forming a molecular or atomic film (the adsorbate). Exchange adsorption, Physical adsorption and chemical adsorption have been recognized as adsorption types. This study involves the separation of an azeotropic mixture (benzene-cyclohexane) by adsorption technique using Eu-GAC(Granular Activated Carbon) and Sand. The Eu-GAC was produced by thermal pyrolysis of Eucalyptus tree branches and leaves and the Sand was collected from El-Khums seaside. The influence of several parameters such as dose or mass of adsorbent, pH, mesh number and contact time were investigated. The optimum adsorption efficiency occurred at pH 3. Diffusion and harmonic analysis on hypergraph and application in ontology similarity measure and ontology mapping

ABSTRACT: Ontology similarity calculation and ontology mapping are crucial research topics in information retrieval. Ontology, as a concept structure model, is widely used in biology, physics, geography and social sciences. In this paper, we present new algorithms for ontology similarity measurement and ontology mapping using harmonic analysis and diffusion regularization on hypergraph. The optimal function gets from new algorithms manifests good smoothness and well reflects the structure of the ontology graph. A comparison study of three nonlinear multivariate data analysis methods in smartongue: Kernel PCA, LLE and Sammon Mapping

ABSTRACT: Smartongue is a voltammetric electronic tongue, based on a non-specific sensors array and one special voltammetry, so called multi-frequency large amplitude pulse voltammetry (MLAPV), which made its responding signals have much overlapping information. Three non-linear multivariate data analysis methods, Kernel principal component analysis (Kernel PCA), Locally linear Embedding (LLE) and Sammon mapping, were used to dig the information from the collecting data of Smartongue. One linear data analysis method, normal principal component analysis (PCA) and the discrimination index (DI value) were applied as the reference method and as the quantitative indicator to evaluate the discrimination ability. The results indicated that three non-linear data processing methods exhibited much more feasible and efficient than PCA in Smartongue. Optimization of nutrients for chitinase production by Serratia marcescens JPP1 against aflatoxin using statistical experimental design

ABSTRACT: Chitinase is produced by a number of organisms and it is one of the most important enzymes with industrial significance. In this study, we describe the optimization of medium composition with increased production of chitinase for Serratia marcescens strain JPP1. The strain was isolated from the peanut hulls in Jiangsu Province, China and exhibited antagonistic activity against aflatoxins and chitinolytic activity by producing chitinases. Study on the potential of antifungal activity of essential oils against fungal pathogens of fruits and vegetables

ABSTRACT: This research was undertaken to assess the in vitro antifungal potential of the essential oils of clove, cinnamon, aniseed, green prickleyash, Pricklyash peel, cumin and fennel against the five major fungal pathogens of fruits and vegetables using the method of inhibitory zone, the inhibition to the mycelial growth and the minimal inhibitory concentration.i.e, Penicillium italicum, penicillium expansum, Monilinia fructigena , Penicillium sp. and Fusarium spp. The results indicated that clove had significant antifungal activity to all strains, especially against Penicillium italicum. Cinnamon and aniseed had strong antifungal activity to all strains tested except Fusarium spp. , especially against Monilinia fructigena. Moreover, Clove could inhibit mycelial growth of all pathogens completely and the minimal inhibitory concentration of clove was less than or equal to 0.5% (v/v). Formulation and evaluation of clarithromycin gastroretentive dosage form

ABSTRACT: Floating matrix tablets of clarithromycin were developed to prolonged gastric residence time and thereby increase drug availability. The tablets were formulated by wet granulation technique, using polymers such as Guar Gum, HPMC-K15M and HPMC-K100M, and other standard excipient. Tablets were evaluated for physical characteristics viz, hardness, percentage friability, floating capacity, weight variation and content uniformity. Experimental and quantum chemical studies on corrosion inhibition performance of pyrazolic derivatives for mild steel in hydrochloric acid medium, correlation between electronic structure and inhibition efficiency

ABSTRACT: The inhibition of the corrosion of steel in 1 M HCl by pyrazole compounds 5-bromo-N-((3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1- yl)pyridine-2-amine (AB8) and 3,5-dibromo-N-((3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine-2-amine (AB9) has been studied by weight loss, electrochemical polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. The results obtained reveal that these compounds are efficient inhibitors. The inhibition efficiency increases with the increase of inhibitor concentration and reached 95 % for AB9 at 10-3 M. Potentiodynamic polarisation studies clearly reveal that the presence of all inhibitors does not change the mechanism of hydrogen evolution and that they act mixed inhibitors. Fire resistance of boron-containing fire-retardant by TG analysis

ABSTRACT: Disodium octoborate tetrahydrate (DOT), boric acid (BA), magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) and fire retardant DBM were selected as the main ingredients to develop a fire retardant for Southern Pine. A Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer was used to evaluate the temperature effects of Southern Pine samples treated with the DBM. The results showed that Boron-Containing fire-retardant improved Southern Pine fire retardant performance, the mass loss rate decreased, the char yield and the peak temperature of maximum mass loss increased. Thermokinetic method was used to analyze the TG curves of the treated wood, so as to illustrate the DBM treating agent’ mechanism of flame retardant effect on wood, In order to illustrate the activation energy in different combustion stages with quantity, the TG curves were further analyzed by thermokinetic method to obtain thermokinetic parameters of different phases during wood pyrolysis. Dual-band terahertz filters with sharp slope rate of edge based on two-layered composite metamaterial

ABSTRACT: Terahertz filters with dual-band and sharp slope rate of edge characteristics are reported. We realize the change from single band to dual-band by adding a SRR to the original structure. The mechanism for the dual-band is attributed to introducing a new resonance point. The slope rates of edges for two stop-bands are 297dB/THz, 297 dB/THz, 287 dB/THz, and 354 dB/THz. The mechanism of evans blue removal by sunflower

ABSTRACT: Dyeing wastewater has caused serious synthetic dyes pollution on both water bodies and soil in China. This study investigated the mechanism of azo dye removal by different vegetative organs of hydroponically grown sunflowers. In all treatments, the percent of dye removal by living organs was higher than corresponding dead organs. The results show that decolorization of Evans blue by tissues of sunflowers was partly attribute to degradation and partly due to sorption. Moreover, the biodegradtion played a greater role than sorption in the dye removal. The biodegradation rate of the dye was estimated. Realistic values of Km and Vmax were estimated by a computer program using non-linear regression treatment and Lineweaver–Burk model. In both methods, the rate of azo dye removal from the aqueous solution by roots was the highest, followed by leaves and stems. Protective effect of Eclipta alba on haloperidol induced extrapyramidal movement disorders in albino rats

Effect of some novel metallocefepime on neurotransmitter catalyzing enzymes

  ABSTRACT : The effect of some prepared cefepime metal complexes with Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II) and mixed metals (Fe,Ni) or (Cu,Fe) on the activity and kinetics of purified acetyl cholinesterase (AChE) and monoamine oxidase (MAO-B&A) were investigated. The brain AChE and MAO-A & B from Egyptian Mediterranean buffalo (Bas Buballus) was purified by ammonium sulphate precipitation, Sephadex G-25, and Sephadex G-100. The effect of these prepared metallo cefepime on the activity of pure AChE and also (MAO-B&A) were carried out in vitro by using standard colorimetric assays. The results revealed that AChE was inhibited by Mn(II) ,Cu(II) with different molar ratios(Cu:Cefepime) [(1:3)&(4:1)] ,Zn(II) and mixed metal [Fe(III),Ni(II)] cefepime complexes.   ABSTRACT : Enlightened by Lota’s report, this paper first analyzes the volatile oil chemotype of Citrus reticulata Blanco peel from different cultivars according to the contents of four compounds such as Limonene, γ-Terpinene, Linalool, and Benzoic acid, 2-(methylamino)-, methyl ester (or called Methyl methanthranilate).In fact, all oils have Limonene as a primary component, and they all can be classified as the chemotype of Limonene. And most oils comprise γ-Terpinene as the second high amount component, some oils comprise the characteristic components as Linalool and Methyl methanthranilate. Then, based on the standard that ifγ-Terpinene≥ 9.0%, Linalool ≥ 4.0%, Methyl methanthranilate≥ 1.0%,the oil can be continually sub classified as the chemotype of γ-Terpinene, Linalool,orMethyl methanthranilate. Usage of medicinal plants by two cultural communities of Kanyakumari district, Tamilnadu, South India

  ABSTRACT : The present study was conducted to document the ethnomedicinal knowledge of two cultural communities residing in Kanyakumari district, Tamilnadu, South India. Ethnobotanical uses of medicinal plants were obtained through intensive structured and semi-structured interviews from traditional medicinal practitioners (TMP) and elders of the community. The plant specimens were identified by using the herbarium specimens available in the Department of Botany, Nesamony Memorial Christian College, Marthandam. A total of 131 plant species has been used to treat various ailments among the two cultural communities of Kanyakumari district. Regarding the medicinal uses of plants species it varies among the community, whereas few plants have same usage. Total antioxidant activity of Thai medicinal plants associated with the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancers

  ABSTRACT : Herbs have been used as traditional medicine for centuries and believed to possess antioxidant properties. We screen aqueous extracts from 40 medicinal plants in Thai traditional medicine that believed to reduce the risks of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancers. Total antioxidant activity was measured by Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) assay. In the plants associated with the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, we found that the total antioxidant activities of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn., Bixaorellane, Michelia alba, Mammea siamensis, and Michelia champaca were higher than others. In the plants associated with the treatment of diabetes, we found that total antioxidant activities of Xylinbaria minutiflora, Leptocarpus disjuntus, Salacia chinensis, Albizia myriophylla and Urceola minutiflora were higher than others. Analysis on biomechanics characteristics and countermeasures for knee pain when practicing Taijiquan

  ABSTRACT : In the process of practicing Taijiquan, the symptom of knee pain will happen from time to time, the pain symptom is closely connected to such factors as the movement postures, technical movements, contraction force of lower limb muscles and ligament traction. This research is designed to analyze and compare the sports biomechanics between the trainees with the symptom of knee pain and Taijiquan coaches with skilled technology through the experimental method; the results show that the result of knee pain symptom has something to do with the unscientific training and failing to master the correct technical essentials. Enzymatic hydrolysis of human-like collagen and molecular weight distribution of hydrolysates

  ABSTRACT : Process parameters on enzymatic hydrolysis and molecular weight distribution of human-like collagen ( HLC ) hydrolysates were investigated. HLC was hydrolysed by trypsin and pepsin, the optimal process parameters were obtained by the single-factor and orthogonal experiments. The molecular weight distribution of hydrolysates (MW) was determined using both SDS-PAGE and Sephadex G25 partition. In the study, the maximum degree of hydrolysis (DH) of HLC hydrolysate obtained by trypsin (temperature 50°C, pH 8.0, HLC concentration 15mg/mL, E/S=80%, 8 h) was 70.9%, MW ranged from 500 to 1 400 Da. While that obtained by the pepsin (temperature 50° C, pH 2.5, HLC concentration=5mg/mL, and E/S=3%, 7 h) was 24.25%, MW ranged from 4000 to 6500 Da. An optimization algorithm for solving a class of multiplicative problems

  ABSTRACT : In this paper, by using new linearization method we present an optimization algorithm for globally solving a class of multiplicative problems which have a broad application in computational chemistry, information technology, and so on. By utilizing characteristic of quadratic function, a series of linear relaxation programming problem of the initial problem can be derived and which can provide a reliable lower bound. By means of the subsequent solutions of a sequence of linear relaxation programming problems, the proposed optimization algorithm converges to the global optimal solution of the initial problem. Numerical experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is feasible and effective. Nuclear magnetic resonance rapidly testing method on the moisture content of fresh milk

  ABSTRACT : In this study, with the use of LF-NMR technology, IR pulse sequence and CPMG pulse sequence were applied to detect the changes in the moisture of fresh milk samples, which were stored up at 30°C for 96 hours. Relaxation time signal T1 and T2 were measured to analyze synthetically the combination and mobility of water molecules. Furthermore, T21,T22 proton density were inversed by T2 to observe the change of bound water and free water, then the total water content can be determined by superposition of inversion signals. Meanwhile, the ratio of T21 and T22 can be used for quality control and rapid detection of corruption. The experiment results demonstrate that the moisture of milk can be used to determine the quality variation of milk. This research method analyzes and summarizes the change rules of moisture combination state in fresh milk during storage. Antioxidant activity of berberine on benzo (A) pyrene induced experimental lung carcinogenesis in mice

  ABSTRACT : Currently, search of new plant compounds possessing anticancer and antioxidant activity is a vital area of research in plant medicine, as plant products are safe and relatively low of cost. Berberine, an isoquinoline alkaloid derived from plants, is a traditional medicine for many diseases in India. In recent times, berberine has been revealed to have potent anticancer activity against various cancers. Information regarding the effect of berberine on experimental lung cancer is limited. The objective of the present study to evaluate the antioxidant potential of berberine on experimental lung carcinogenesis. Thirty Swiss albino mice were divided into five groups of six animals each.
